My Penis Is Too Small: What Can I Do?

Economist Seth Stephens-Davidowitz recently found that men search Google for “how to make my penis bigger” more than any other phrase. He also concluded that “The degree of a man’s worry about his genitals is profound...male body insecurity is not far behind female body insecurity.” After all the searching, what can men do to improve penile insecurity?


A man’s sense of identity is often defined by his penis. Consider these observations:

  • Another term for the penis is “manhood,” which represents courage, strength, and sexual potency.
  • It is human nature to desire not to be middle of the road, but to excel - we want to literally “stand out” from our fellow man.
  • American popular culture dictates that bigger is better, whether it is houses, automobiles, boats, food portions, breasts, buttocks or penises.
  • The penis dangles in the middle of a man’s body. It is the “center of gravity.”
  • Undoubtedly some of our sexual partners feel that size matters.
  • Regardless of our sexual abilities and prowess, we know that we may be judged and partners may have expectations strictly based on size.

Most men think they have a small penis - when in fact they are most likely average or even above the average size. Penile enlargement surgery is risky, ineffective and certainly not ready for prime time. Some techniques are what I call “sleight of penis” procedures including cutting the suspensory ligaments, disconnecting and moving the attachment of the scrotum to the penile base, and liposuction of the pubic fat pad.
