The Spartan Vacuum Erection Device (VED) is a premium-quality, medical grade penis pump used to compel an erection in men with erectile dysfunction (ED), to help with erection rehabilitation and to improve poor circulation in the penis. It can also be helpful before and after penile implant surgery by optimizing surgical results.
Using the Spartan VED properly takes a bit of practice. This step-by-step guide helps make learning how to use it as easy as possible.
Likewise, we will point out some important precautions to help you use the product safely.
Constriction Rings are the most important item of a vacuum erection device (VED). Sometimes called tension rings or support rings, the Spartan VED constriction rings are specially designed for durability, comfort, and efficacy.
They are easy to load on to your VED by stretching the ring over and loading cone (step 3) and on the tube before using the pump. Once the VED is used to achieve the desired erection, the ring is easily applied to the base of the penis to help maintain the erection (step 9.)
• Once the correct size is determined, a constriction ring should last 3-4 months.
• Ensure to use water-based lubricant only (oil based lubricants such as petroleum jelly will cause the ring to deteriorate.)
• Do not wear a constriction ring for more than 30 minutes at a time. IF WORN LONGER, PERMANENT DAMAGE IS POSSIBLE.
• Allow a minimum of 60 minutes between uses.
• Do not fall asleep when using a constriction ring or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Use of a constriction ring may cause bruising and blood vessels to break right below the surface of the skin. These small reddish spots below the skin are known as petechia.
• Do not be alarmed when petechia appears. Usually, it heals within a week.
• If petechia does not heal within a week or it seems very severe, please consult your doctor.
• If using a VED post-prostate surgery, do note use constriction rings until 2.5 months after surgery.
• You can maintain suction without rings, by holding the tube over your penis after the erection is obtained.
• Start this therapy 4-5 weeks following prostate surgery and continue for the next 8 months.
• Try using at least 3 times weekly and hold the erection for 8-10 minutes each use.
• Remove pubic hair from the base of the penis (where the shaft of the penis meets the body.)
• For your first use, select the “B” size constriction ring. (The rings come in A, B and C sizes. A is the smallest, C is the largest.)
• After first use, select the “C” ring if “B” was too tight, or the “A” ring if erection was lost prematurely during your first use.
Attach the pump head to the cylinder tube on the side closest to the air release valve.
Attach the cone to the opposite side of the cylinder. (If the adapter bushings are pre-inserted, please remove them, then sit the cone on the cylinder.)
For your first use, we recommend that you choose the "B" size ring. Slide the constriction ring over the loading cone onto the cylinder. Use the supplied water based lubricant on the tip of the cone to help slide the ring onto the cylinder more easily. Then remove the cone.
Insert the adapter bushings if needed to create a better fit around the base of the penis. Two adapter bushings are provided to fit different size users.
Locate the air release valve. Push the air valve in prior to use. This will help statically connect the valve to the tube and prevent air from releasing prematurely.
Apply water-based lubricant to the base of the penis and to the inside of the cylinder tube/adapter bushings. This will help form a tight vacuum seal and prevent the penis from sticking to the sides of the cylinder. Trimming pubic hair is recommended.
Insert the penis into the cylinder tube and apply slight pressure towards the body. Standing up will help produce the best results.
Press the cylinder towards the body and start to pump. When using the manual head pump, hold the cylinder with one hand and press down on the head pump with the other hand (towards the body) to create a vacuum in the cylinder. Two to four pumps will create a low-level vacuum seal against your body. Wait a 2-4 seconds while keeping the pump on your body and allow your body to naturally pull in blood flow. Repeat these steps 4-5 times until an erection is obtained. In most cases, pumping for 1-2 minutes is sufficient to produce an erection.
Press the cylinder towards the body and start to pump. When using the automatic head pump, hold the cylinder with one hand and press the power button on the head pump with the other hand for 2-4 seconds to create a low-level vacuum seal against your body. Wait 2-4 seconds while keeping the pump on your body and allow your body to naturally pull in blood flow. Repeat these steps 4-5 times until an erection is obtained.
As soon as the desired erection is created, slide the constriction ring off the cylinder tube and onto the base of the penis. Do not wear the constriction ring for more than 30 minutes.
Any vacuum pressure remaining can easily be released by pressing the air release valve down (towards the body) to vent air pressure. When desired, or no longer than 30 minutes after placing the constriction ring, remove the constriction ring by pulling tabs out and away from the body.

• If you are taking large quantities of blood thinners or aspirin, if you have Sickle Cell Trait, Sickle Cell Disease, prolonged erections or other diseases associated with changes in blood clotting, do not use a VED until consulting a doctor.
• Vacuum therapy should never be painful or cause decreased sensation. Discontinue use or release air pressure immediately if any pain occurs.
• Vacuum therapy may cause bruising, cause blood vessels to break right below the surface of the skin and cause small reddish spots below the skin known as petechia. This reaction is common, but if severe, discontinue use and contact your doctor.
• Removal of constriction rings may be difficult for men with decreased hand strength.
• Use plenty of water-based lubricant to carefully remove constriction rings.
• Constriction rings should not be worn more than 30 minutes.
• Vacuum therapy should not be used while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• Consult a doctor or urologist if you are displaying erectile dysfunction signs to ensure your symptoms are not a cause of a more serious condition.
